Seminars
Tuesday Mornings at 10 a.m.
Mid-June through mid-August
at the Lions Shelter House above the Dam in Pine River!
Pine River's Free Fishing Seminars are led by noted area guide, Den Pluimer. Den has been guiding Pine River area lakes for over twenty years and provides seminar attendees with a tackle box full of fish catching ideas. Den promotes catch and release and touched on other interesting fishy subjects during his presentation. Here's your chance to pick the brain of a real north country guide without costing you a cent!

The lakes and the streams in the Pine River area contain all species f game fish. You'll find walleye, large and small mouth bass, northern pike, muskie, panfish and trout in these northern waters.

The angling season for walleye and northern pike begins mid-May each year with large and small mouth bass season beginning a few weeks later. Muskie season starts at the beginning of June. The season continues through mid-February each year with panfish and perch legal to catch all year long. Check with the Minnesota-DNR for details on opening and closing dates of seasons.
You'll find many bait and tackle stores, resorts and campgrounds in the Pine River area ready to supply you with everything you'll need for your fishing excursion. The owners of these businesses are your best source of information on what type of fish are biting and where. Don't hesitate to ask for their advice.

There are also guide services available and hiring a guide for a half or a whole day trip may be the best investment you can make to ensure that you are fishing with the right techniques. There are also many shoreline opportunities where you can site back and wait for your bobber to disappear below the surface. Pine River has a public fishing pier in the city park and many anglers catch a variety of fish each year below the dam nearby.

Fishing Seminars
From mid-June through mid-August fishing seminars are held at the Pine River dam each Tuesday at 10:00AM Anglers of all ages are invited to bring their fishing poles and learn new techniques or brush up on old ones. Either way, it's a chance to visit with fellow fishermen and women, cast a line and enjoy the cool of the morning air.
Ice Fishing - December through March
As soon as the lakes freeze over, fish houses dot the glittering landscape, providing shelter for avid anglers. Heartier fishermen and women can be found on the open ice, their buckets filled wit the catch of the day.
