RIVER AREA OPENING DAY FISHING FORECAST July
2, 2009 Anglers looking to hook a fish over the 4th of July holiday should
find great success. The cool spring has delayed the rise in water temps in area
lakes and walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass are just hitting their stride.
Look for walleye to be switching from minnows to a little more focus on nightcrawlers
or leeches. Although a jig and minnow combination is deadly just about any time
of year, as walleye move deeper and the food base increases, they are more apt
to take a nightcrawler or leech rather than a larger offering. Panfish are and
have been very active with many great reports coming in from crappie and bluegill
anglers. Crappie have moved to the deep side of weed beds off points and bluegill
are hovering near their shallow spawning grounds in three to twelve feet of water.
Largemouth bass have been very active and are taking plastics, spinnerbaits
and crankbaits on most lakes. They will be moving to deep bars that hold weed
growth shortely. Muskie anglers are reporting more active fish as well with one
50 inch muskie being landed on a Longville area lake just two weeks ago! The
Pine River Lions Club hold their annual "Take A Kid Fishing Day" every
June and all kids attending experience a exciting, fun filled day on the water!
