gPINE RIVER AREA FISHING REPORT

May 2, 2008
The ice went off Pine River's Norway Lake on Friday, May 1, about a week later than average by most resident's calculations. Some ice still exists on the shoreline, but the lake is open. Many of the smaller lakes in the area lost their ice this week also. The larger lakes are in the process of shedding their icy coats as this report is being made. They will no doubt be ice free for the fishing opener May 10.
Pelican Lake, near Breezy Point, will be Governor Pawlenty's opening day choice this year. The event is being hosted by
Pequot Lakes.
Look for walleyes to be very shallow this year and near their spawning areas. Best baits for walleyes will be small presentations on light line. One method that works well when walleyes are shallow is to troll a minnow type, shallow swimming lure far behind the boat in a zig-zag pattern across the tops of shallow points and sandbars.
Panfish just may be the best choice this year as they will be in their prime spawning areas.
Good luck!!

The Pine River Lions Club hold their annual "Take A Kid Fishing Day" every June and all kids attending experience a exciting, fun filled day on the water!

Progress may be being made on the move and restoration of the historic Pine River Railroad Depot!
Through a combined effort of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City of Pine River, Cass County, the Pine River Chamber of Commerce and Heritage Group North, funding has been approved that will move and begin the restoration of the depot in the year 2008!
Exciting news for Pine River!
