PINE
RIVER AREA FISHING REPORT May
14, 2012 Minnesota Fishing "Opener" Report Success reports vary after the Minnesota Opening Day for walleye and
northern pike. Scattered reports have been positive, but overall it seemed the
"bite" was slower than expected. A recent cold front dropped water temps
and that may have had something to do with the slower than expected bite. Some
anglers did find the fish, as always, and the best results seemed to be shallow
after dark and around the twenty to twenty-five foot depth during the day. Jig
and minnow combos were the lure of choice, but some fish were taken on the slip-bobber/leech
rig and some fish were taken on nighcrawlers on slip sinker rigs. Look for improvement
over the next weeks as water temps again begin to rise. The best fishing is definitely
ahead of us! Panfish have moved into the shallows and good success was reported
for both sunfish and crappie in most lakes. The Pine
River Lions Club hold their annual "Take A Kid Fishing Day" every June
and all kids attending experience a exciting, fun filled day on the water!
